Buying souvenirs is never an easy task!
When you travel overseas, it’s always a difficult task to think of what to bring back for your friends and families You would want to bring back something that is within your budget, and can symbolize that place.
Upon my last visit in Taipei, I discovered this gourmet supermarket inside the Maji Square Market (Link), and not only do they sell everyday grocery, but they also sell lots of MIT (Made In Taiwan) products, which are great for gifts and souvenirs!
Entrance of the Supermarket
The Maji Food & Deli is located on the right hand side when you walk into the Maji Market. It’s one that you would not miss! I would suggest you to take a walk in the supermarket first before heading to the restaurants further inside the market, as the supermarket closes earlier.
Interior of the Supermarket
The supermarket is quite spacious, and there are ample spaces between the shelves, which made it very easy to walk around even with the shopping cart. It is separated into different sections, such as dry products, the deli, frozen goods, wines etc.

Souvenirs Recommendations
After browsing around the supermarket for over an hour, I have picked the below items as “Best Buys” for souvenirs. In order to fit the best buys criteria, all these products needs to be Made in Taiwan, and has a unique selling point, so let’s check it out together!
- Tea Leaves
Oolong tea is the main type of tea that is produced and consumed in Taiwan. There are many kinds of oolong teas produced in Taiwan. Green tea, and tea with enhanced benefits (such as beauty tea) is also a popular choice. Most of the teas aren’t expensive, and comes in cute packaging, which makes it a great gifts to bring home! - Dried Fruits & Snacks
Taiwan is a blessed country with rich soil and great weather for many different types of fruits! It doesn’t matter which season you come, there will always be sweet fresh fruits around. It could be difficult to transport fresh fruits back to your country, so why not try these dried and candied fruits in convenient packaging? - Condiments and Sauces
Traditional Taiwanese dishes rely a lot on seasonings and condiments. A lot of the time, the street food may look very simple, but it is the condiments that made them so delicious! You can’t bring the street market back home (I wish I could), but you can definitely try replicating that authentic taste with these condiments and sauces.
These garlic fried in duck oil, and deep fried onions in duck oil were my favourite! They add the perfect touch to boiled veggies!
These seafood sauces work best in fried rice!! I use them to spice up my omelette as well! I even used it on my bagel, yummmmm!!
- MIT Beauty Products
Taiwan has quite a large industry in beauty products, especially in face masks! The prices are relatively cheaper, and the quality is one that you could trust to put on your skin.
Maji Food & Deli is not only your ordinary supermarket, it’s a lifestyle market where you can shop for your grocery, your beauty products, and even souvenirs for us tourist! So be sure to check out this place when you are visiting Taipei next time.
Lastly, if you didn’t bring a big enough bag to fit in all the things you have purchased, don’t worry! They sell some very unique shoppers here too!
I would definitely need to visit this place if I will be there next month haha. It seems lots to buy LOL
