It doesn’t matter which part of the world you are in, I’m sure all of you would have heard of Prada – a famous Italian leather brand that started off in Milan in year 1913. Prada is well known for their leather goods and fashion accessories, but did you know that the brand also operates in the Cafe business in Milan?
Pasticceria Marchesi – one of the most iconic cafe in the Milan. Founded in 1824, the brand is famous for its time-honred traditions and hand-made production, aiming to deliver the freshest and best pastries, sweets and coffees to their supporters.
In March 2014, Prada acquired 80% of Marchesi. As two brands that are deeply Milanese in heart, Prada and Marchesi aim to preserve the pastry shop’s historic mores while expanding its celebrated imprint. In September 2016, the third Marchesi shop opened inside Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II arcade, which is right next to the famous Milan Cathedral. The new venue is located on the mezzanine floor above the oldest Prada boutique in the world.

Covering 2,700 square feet, Pasticceria Marchesi is located on the mezzanine level and allows a remarkable view of the Galleria’s mosaics from its many arched windows. The interior of the cafe is fitted out with aqua green marble walls, juxtaposed with a green floral jacquard silk wallpaper & dark marble floor, the use of green velvet armchairs and sofas, together with the brass detailing adds the elegant touch to the whole environment.
Pasticceria Marchesi has an independent access from the Galleria and one from within the Prada boutique, and is open from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and serves breakfast, lunch, tea and evening apéritifs. The cafe gets quite busy thru out the day, especially during the evening apéritifs hours, so it is recommended to make a reservation.

During breakfast hour, a lot of the people will just buy a cup of coffee and a brioche, and stands in front of the bar to enjoy their quick breakfast before they head off to work. As I wasn’t in a rush, so my friend and I decided to sit down and enjoy a nice relaxed breakfast. The cost of breakfast is a bit more expensive than the usual cafes on the street, but it’s all worth it!
The best seats in the cafe is the one by the arch window facing the center of the hall. During my visit in December, you were able to see the amazing Christmas lights decoration and the crystal Christmas tree while enjoying your cup of coffee!

My absolute favorite here is the Shakarato – which is a iced rich espresso drink shaked and served in a martini glass. The aroma of this coffee is so rich and smooth, it’s a must for all coffee lovers!
At Marchesi, they also sell cakes, chocolates and other confectionery which you can purchase. Their chocolates are great for gifts! During Christmas, they also have Christmas decorated cakes!!
So, if you have a chance to visit Milan, be sure to check out this amazing cafe! I can assure you that you will not be disappointed! If you have time, it is also highly recommended to check out the two other Pasticcerie Marchesi outlet, especially their original site at Via Santa Maria alla Porta, which is nearly 200 years old!
NOTE: Let me tell you a secret… Shhh… the waiting space outside the cafe and the staircase are also great photo spots!
